Blackout vs Light Filtering Curtains
Blackout curtains are for control. Triple-weave fabrics block 90–95% of outside light, cut glare on screens, dampen street noise and help hold air-conditioned air in. Bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms almost always want blackout.
Light filtering curtains are for glow. They take the edge off direct sun, protect furniture from UV fade and keep rooms bright without exposing you to the street. Living rooms and dining rooms usually belong here.
The designer's trick is layering: a sheer for the day, a blackout for the night, one double rod. It costs less than you think and changes how the room feels around the clock.
